Can you identify?

Can anyone identify this creature? They appeared on our patio yesterday and again this morning but we can’t see them anywhere else in the garden. They don’t have legs but move by rolling and wriggling.

If it hasn’t got legs is a chrysalis, don’t know what though, could be a Hawkmoth, I would put it somewhere safe and let it do its thing, see what hatches out.
