White spores in compost

I have been getting my Canna musifolia tubers ready, and noted that the (bone dry) compost they were potted up in all winter had a slightly grey look and emitted clouds of white spores when disturbed. Should I be concerned about reusing said compost? It was new and unused when the cannas were potted up.

The canna tubers look very healthy. Somehow a plectranthus plant that was included in one of the pots was still alive and in leaf, despite being kept in total darkness all winter with no water!
