Hydrangia growth

Hi, is it too late to fertilise hydrangeas and how often should they be fertilised? My plant looks very bare (the ones in the ground are showing a lot more growth).

Looks a bit dry to me, but I only grow mine in the ground.

Do you know what variety it is? If its a mop head or lace cap it's been pruned back to hard they grow from existing growth. If it's Hydrangea paniculata or Hydrangea arborescens they only start showing growth now.

I've not grown hydrangea in pots as they will need watering post days. They love moist rich soul. Something you can't realy give them in a pot. But if your determined give the plant a full can of water. Then when it's in leaf regular tomato feed

Like said above I think its been pruned to hard, I usually leave my mop heads on over winter and cut them off beginning of spring when new buds, or leaf start to emerge. Cut just above the two leaves. Then two weeks later its usually in full growth preparing for flowers. I would give it a Good water and feed. See what happens... Also put a new layer of compost on top before you water. Hopefully it will grow back

Thank you all, I will give it a good feed and water it well. Unfortunately don’t know the variety.
