Fertilising roses

Where do you chuck rose fertiliser?
is close to  the main stem OK or is further out better?
I want it to get to the roses rather than the underlying plants.

I have been using a liquid fertilizer once a week called miracle grow.  I'm having good results pouring it directly on the plant center

Thanks James. Mine is granular.  I've spread it under the canopy, but a few inches away from main stems as I wasn't sure what to do

That’s what I do @B3 ... it’s where the feeder roots are ... sprinkle the fertilizer, tickle the surface of the soil a bit,  then I water it in.
