Autumn Onion Sets

I started some autumn onion sets in modules and after sprouting the bulbs became soft.I was told nothing to worry about they will fill out once planted . They`ve been outside for a few weeks now and showing no signs of firming up. Is it now too late for that to happen in which case what did I do wrong ?

There's nothing to worry about. the old bulb will become soft and rot away so long as they are growing nice green shoots I would just leave them alone for several months yet.
