Is my Mint healthy?

Thea2Thea2 Posts: 14
Hi guys, I have a potted Mint plant that smells absolutely amazing (any ideas on type would be great) but it looks really woody & sparse & I don’t know what to do to make it look good again. Can anyone advise please?!

Mint spreads out from the centre so the young strong growth is around the edge and the centre tends to die off.  I would take that out of the pot and split it into two or three smaller plants, discarding the middle section, and pot them all up into three individual pots.  They'll soon fill the pots and you'll have even more delicious aromatic mint.   :)

There are so many, but often you can detect a little bit of aroma other than just mint.
If you crush a leaf, you might get a clue.
I'd follow @Dovefromabove 's advice re splitting and potting up too. It's very forgiving stuff on the whole  :)

    Chocolatio mintiernus @purplerallim  ..... :D

I thought it was called After Eights @Fairygirl ... plant one of those things from the green box and that's what comes up 🤣

Mint are quite heavy feeders too so if you keep them in pots you'll need to refresh the soil every year and keep up on the liquid feeds.

It's a wonder mine are still alive then @wild edges. They ( a chocolate and a spearmint) were in little pots, ignored all summer, unless I had some tomato feed in a watering can as I went past, then put in bigger tubs over winter and cut back, and ignored all last summer except for the odd watering or feed, and are now bursting into life again. Hardy little things. Only had them to keep mosquitoes away.

It doesn’t smell chocolatey it’s just a super clear minty smell. I wondered if it was spearmint 🤔 no idea though! Anyway I split the plant 🌱 it’s the first time I’ve managed to be up for 3 days I’m so chuffed! Look!! 😃 👀
