English lavender plugs

Hi everyone, I hope you're all keeping well
I'm new to gardening and I have received my first English lavender plugs about 8mm wide. I was wondering what your thoughts are on transplanting them.  I've been advised that they can be transplanted to the ground or pot.

Buy just not sure how reliable this advice is hence seeking advice from the experts on Gardeners World.

I hope to hear from you soon.  Thanks

They look good but would remove the plastic bags and garden them off by putting them outside during the day and bring them in at night. Do this for a week then plant out but personally I would plant them and hope for the best!

  • Thanks for the advice, planning to plant them out Saturday or Sunday.

When you say garden them off does that mean breaking them in?

    Sorry learning here 😂

So sorry that should have been harden them off😁
If they have been grown under cover it's a shock to suddenly be put out in the cold,  normally you keep them in a cold frame but leav8ng them outside against a house wall during the day and bringing them in at night when temperatures lower is fine.
Don't know who you Bought them off but maybe their website can give you some guidance
Oh and welcome to the forum
  • 😂 lol harden them off now I get it. I got them from birdlife.co.uk, but there's no guidance on website.

Thanks again, I'll hold off planting them for a few days to "harden" them, then plant out next Monday or Tuesday 😀

I bought mine last year from Brookside Nurseries. I put them in little peat pots in the cold frame (anywhere cool would do, but take the plastic bags off). I planted them in the garden, and some in pots around the end of May and they all look to be doing well again this year. I am in Scotland, so you might be able to get them out sooner where you are.

    Hi Purplerain (Prince fan eh?)

Just seen this now, that's helpful, unfortunately don't have a coldframe, at least not at moment lol, but plan on getting one. In fact, didn't even know what one was ...... Lol

Just going to put them out each day and bring them in then plan out possibly this weekend.

    Thanks again 😊

PS I've another question about French Lavender but will check to see if my question is already covered elsewhere before I post another question.
