Firework Grass has it died?

vvilcinavvilcina Posts: 6
Heya, planted this beautiful firework grass last summer, and it was beautiful the whole autumn. I cut it back in December. And it hasn't come back, I have two plants and both of them are just old cut grass.. All the other grasses I have have started coming back, Im in London this winter haven't really been that cold so just not sure what have happened to it?

I bought one of those on special offer from a nursery in autumn a couple of years ago.
It was only when I got home and done some research that I found they are half-hardy and treated as annuals - grrr just as well it was only 99p
I'm afraid it wont come back again, but if you have any seeds saved you could try sowing them

Yes - those Pennisetums aren't hardy, even in the south with a quiet winter.
Pretty though - if you can be bothered with the faffing.
I'm too lazy for all that malarkey now  ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

The same story happened to me. Won't ever be tricked with those again. :(

Pennisetum 'Karley Rose' and 'Dark Desire' are similar if not so purple - and are hardy:

The RHS has a list of many varieties and suppliers, so you might find a more suitable one on there too.
Knoll Gardens is an excellent nursery though  :)
