Penstemon cuttings

I took some Penstemon cuttings last year for the first time and most of them took. However, some are looking rather stunted and some a pale green. And ideas why?  They have been potted up once and are in a frost free greenhouse. Do I need to pot them on again before putting out at the end of May? Pta55

Do you know which varieties they are ? Some tend to make stronger growth than others, l find.

They are Raven andApple Blossom and also some dwarf ones but don’t know varieties. I tipped one out to see what root  growth was like and they are about half way down a 4” wide pot with what looked like quite fleshy roots not thin and long. Pta55

I'm having a guess here to be honest  :), but l would think it may be something to do with the fact that they're in 4 inch pots. My penstemon cuttings started off in 3 inch pots and some even smaller (half height ones). It could be that the roots are still filling the pots before making top growth.
Hopefully someone else can come up with the answer.
It's still quite early for penstemons really , so you may well find that by mid April they start to get going.

I checked pots they are3.5” but I get your point, they haven’t made a very good root system yet, not sure if there is anything I can do about that. Hopefully it’s just time. Thank you. Pta55
