Stipa Gigantea Golden Oats

Hi,

I grew these from seed last year and planted out in September.

Some are thriving while a few are splitting.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Soil is free draining, south facing sheltered site.

  • This is an example of one that is thriving, about 3ft away.

    Thanks.

Could just be the luck of the draw, some plants thrive while others don't,  even if they came from the same packet.
Where did you get the seeds from?
  • Thanks AnniD.

    Seeds came from Seedaholic.

Has anyone experienced similar with Stipas or other grasses?

After searching online there isn't much information.

not sure myself, but i have just set about seven types of grass seed to germinate....any tips herein welcome!   currently they're in greenhouse, i'm concerned the temperature swings might be too much.
  • Hi Chris I had a similar problem I planted 2 around 4 years ago one is going strong but the other didn't survive. Although planted around 2 meters apart the one that I lost was in an area that gets more damp during the winter. They can't cope with wet at all. They were in 9cm pots, My healthy one is in really dry conditions next to a fence with neighbours Leandi sucking up all the water, it seems really healthy and doing well.
  • Thanks StillLearning. I plan on growing more from seed so this is great to know 👍
