crazy fast growing Daphne Aureomarginata
hi everyone
so i have this daphne for 4 years now and planted it in a nice corner in the front garden by the porch thinking that it's a slow grower and will look v nice there.
it does look very nice, and OMG the scent is devine (helped by sarcococca next to it) but it's growing too fast! from a small 1.5l pot plant to this monster in the picture. in fact, this monster was pruned quite heavily last year and it's back again, putting on like 4-5 inches of growth a year. it'll give laurels a run for their money
i think, as a result, the flowers are not on the top of the leaves but under and along the brunches too... it just doesnt have that nice tidy appearance like i expected.
i have another one growing next to it and it too has a similar habit, from a small single stem seedling in 9cm pot 2 years ago, it turned into quite a plant now (last picture). it supposed to be the rare white/cream vareity from Wisley gardens (can't remember the name now the label has been lost), but unfortunately it turned out to be pink Aureomarginata
now, i'm not quite sure what to do with them? keep pruning? when, how? and why is it growing like mad?

i did read the label and it said slow growing. well it's not, and it's doing very well with pruning, obviously. it has wisteria, sarcococca, lavenders and few lilies around it and it's not bothered by any of it at all, obviously. so label seems to be wrong.
and the way it looks is wrong too. it has space and it can grow 2 meters if it likes, itd be 1.5m wide now for sure, but its doing it too fast. and flowers are in the wrong places.
i'm just lost as to why it's growing to fast.
