Forgot the taties!

Last year I planted some potatoes, I think they were called Blue Salad potatoes. I put the harvested potatoes into a cupboard and forgot about them. Now they look like this. Should I trim them before planting them or just coil up the runners in the soil? Is it too late to plant them now?

OOh not ideal! Where are you? Where I am which is the equivilent of Aberdeen it is still to early to plant potatoes. if you are right down south you may be ok, idealy you want to plant about 3 weeks before your last frost.
If I had to plant those I would trim the shoots back to where there are masses of branches coming off and carefully lay them in a trench, but you would probably be better off buying some new seed potatoes to be honest.
  • I'm in South Shields, north east England. We had frost this morning. I'll still plant them rather than get new ones.
  • Or plant these and new ones to see if there's any difference.

I've planted taters with long shoots before. Dig a trench and carefully lay along the trench then cover up.

Are the potatoes dried up because they aren't a lot of good if they are.
  • the skin is shrivelled looking and they feel a bit squishy.
