rose suggestion please

Hi,  I am hoping to grow Kew Gardens rose against this short fence.  Has anyone any ideas as to how I can keep this shrub rose from getting too wide for the space as it is on a narrow patio area?  I was hoping to grow it upwards rather than outwards but not sure how to go about achieving this.  If anyone has any better suggestions rather than a shrub rose they would be gratefully received but I do like the look of Kew Gardens.  Many thanks.

Kew Gardens has an upright growth so it should be OK. If too much grows towards the patio then trim it off or tie it back.

Ok, thanks very much for that.  Good to hear it has upright growth.

Given me an excuse! Love Kew Gardens rose.

As Busy-Lizzie said, training is just a case of tying things into the positions you want them to be and pruning off anything that’s in the wrong place, or growing in the wrong direction and can’t be repositioned.

Beautiful photos. Does it really flower almost all through the summer as David Austin's
    brochure says?
