Can anyone identify this weed?

Hi,

I've got these growing in my garden and worried it might be Japanese knotweed, although it doesn't look like some of the pictures of knotweed I've seen.

Does anyone have any ideas of what it might be and how to deal with it?

Thanks!

May I ask what the tree is (if you know) behind it? It is not Jap knotweed as far as I know but it may well be either a sucker from the tree or a self seeded sapling.

    Welcome to the forums.
You can relax ....it is definitely not Japanese knot weed.
It looks like a sucker from the tree in pic 4.

  • We have a few trees but not sure what they are to be honest.

I think one of them is a blackthorn (not the one pictured but one on the other side) because it has fruit that look like larger blueberries.

These suckers are spreading over the garden, all within a few metres of that tree though, at least on the same side of the garden it seems.

Great it's not the dreaded knotweed... it's persistent though.

It's not blackthorn, but it's definitely a sucker from one of your trees.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Most/almost all Cornus have opposite leaves...so I don't believe it is that.
