Id please 😊

Hi all, can someone please help me to identify this plant? It was hidden beneath bamboo in the garden of a house we've just bought and I am hoping for some advice so that I can look into how to best care for it.

Morning it's a phormium of some type others on here will most likely know exactly what. Tough as old boots
  • Thanky you that has helped hugely. It's a New Zealand Flax - Phormium Tenax.

Hi sherrieleighdecourcy only thing I watch for is that they are hoarders of slugs and snails which love to live in them so don't plant anything that's tasty to them near by

I check mine daily in spring and summer and remove the large snails who use it for shelter in the daytime  :)
If you've kept the bamboo, it will probably swamp it though, so it's best to move it if you want to keep it. If you can't get the whole thing out,  you can chop into them and remove a section to pot up and grow on. As long as it has some roots, it will be fine. I'd leave that until next month at least though, so that it's in good shape to do well. The variegated ones benefit from that anyway, or they tend to revert over time.
They make very good specimen plants.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
