How to tell the age of a magnolia without cutting into it

How can I tell the age of my magnolia soulangia without cutting into it? I've pruned it over the years so it's not at full height, but the girth is 50cm in circumference.

    Why would it be important enough to find the age by cutting into it?
    In London. Keen but lazy.

    Hi and welcome to the Forum.
    Much would depend upon variety and location. Growth is faster in some areas than others. 
    Very difficult to say for sure.
