When our friends' son died he had requested a 'natural funeral' which, as I understand it, meant a wicker coffin and being buried in what will become a woodland area.  Each grave has a tree or trees planted beside it so the body eventually becomes nutrient, and there will be no non-biodegradable residue.
He was a lovely guy and it's nice to think that he will still be having a positive effect on the environment for decades to come.

A shroud burial is even better if you want a ‘green’ burial.

That is what I would like but the nearest place to here is a long long way away.

I've heard there is some part, or parts, of the world where you can just be left on a remote hillside for wild animals and birds to eat you.  I'd go for that.

I think the Tibetans do it. Plenty of space between you and your neighbours. Don’t know how it would go down in Esher.
Apophthegm -  a big word for a small thought.
If you live in Derbyshire, as I do.

Deer, mature oak forest, bluebells woods, kids activities - not so far from you, I think.

My parents are in our garden. The garden they loved.

  • That's lovely, @Lyn, - I think it's what I'd like ideally. It's quite difficult to get the right permissions though, isn't it?

I've sung with a choir at Epping Forest burial park. It's a beautiful place but I believe the prices are very high to be buried there.

I like the idea of human composting. I hope it comes over here.
