Maple tree - ok or not?

This maple tree has been like this since I moved in five years ago. It's similar to sunscorch or frost crack but it's on the northern side and there's no reflective materials near that could have enabled it. It's also along various branches. Any other ideas? Thanks.

    If it is large, I would get a good tree surgeon in to check it. It looks like it could have some decay in the middle.

    I'm hopefully getting a tree surgeon in soon for another tree so I'll ask at the same time, cheers :)
