New Camelia - Wonder White - Advice required

I have brought a Camelia, Wonder White it's currently in a 15cm pot.  It's in very good condition with a lot of healthy buds on it.

My first question is should I repot it and if so what in?

Second question is where should I put it?  Out doors in a sheltered spot?  In a cold greenhouse over night and out doors during the day?  Or in the house in a coolish room?

Any advice will be appreciated.  Thank you in advance

It will have been grown and displayed under cover so best to protect it from strong winds and cold especially at night until it gets acclimatised.  Don't put it anywhere facing east as the early morning sun can thaw frozen buds too quickly and lead to browning and spoiling of the flowers.

I would check its rootball and see if there are signs of it getting pot bound.  If so, pot on to the next size up using a good ericaceous compost because it won't like calcium in its growing medium or water.

Use rain or distilled water for watering if your tap water is hard.  Feed with a good fertiliser for roses or tomatoes and an occasional feed for ericaceous plants and make sure it doesn't dry out in summer as this is when it forms next year's flower buds.

Mine - un-named but rich pinky red - has been flowering its socks off since just before Xmas.  Looking a bit bedraggled this morning but still colourful.

  • Lucky you @Obelixx do love them. Will have to find a new spot for it as clearly it's not having a great time where it is.
