Standard Rose

Hi

I have a standard rose which I transplanted from a pot last spring into the border.  Could I prune it down to become a bush?  If so how low would I prune her down too?

Most roses are grafted, so cutting the head off a standard rose would leave the root stock which is not the variety that flowers so it wouldn't work.
  • Ahh makes sense will leave as it is..... Many Thanks

Standard roses are much more expensive than the usual bush roses would you consider putting it into a huge pot/ half barrel and planting around it? Could look lovely
  • Hi Debs thanks for your message it was in a large pot for a few years

What made you move it? I bought my daughter a Desdemona  standard rose she will be putting it into a half barrel by front door under planted with pretty annuals and trailing plants I think it will be beautiful
  • Hi Debs we spent a lot of time away last year and friends were happy to pop round and water the borders but due to poor rainfall pots need alot more
The desdemona is a beauty and surely will look beautiful
