I have the opposite soil, Digging-it, a thin layer of of heavy, compacted (alkaline) clay on rock, so I also need to dig in tonnes of organic matter like manure and compost as well as the tea water to grow roses. Plus DA rose food 2-3 times and fresh ericaceous mulch every year, oh a lot of time deadheading and battling black spot. Despite challenging climate and growing conditions, they are very addictive. Get a few growing well and you will be hooked!
