Plant identification

can someone tell me what this flower is please? I took the photo this morning, I was surprised to find it flowering in December, it would be nice to plant some more. It has grown from a wold flower seed mix but I'm not sure what it is.

Calendula, they oftens self seed all by themselves, but keep an eye on it when the flower passes and collect the seed.

    my pleasure.
There are lots of types, yellows / oranges etc. They're really cheap to buy and you get lots of them in a packet and have a really good germination rate.  Bees love them and the flowers are edible if you fancy a posh looking salad.

Hence the common name 'pot marigold'. They will flower into January in a mild location. A few of mine looked great this time last year but it's been too cold and wet this year for them here. I haven't planted any seed here for years now but the self-sown seedlings transplant well and you get all sorts of hybrids after a while.
Tradition is just peer pressure from dead people
  • Fantastic, I will scatter some more seed for next year. Its so nice to find something in flower when everything else is looking drab! Roll on Spring!
