What is this?

Hey,

Can someone please confirm what this plant is and how to look after it?

It's actually form Portugal and I've had it for 2 years and flowers intermittently but would like to know how to look after it properly.

It's obviously happy as it grows really fast and is trying to flower now (even though we've had below freezing nights here in Ireland). I generally just have it back after a bit of flowering.

Thanks all, and hope everyone that reads this is looking forward to the holidays.

Thanks

Dave

  • Hey Hostafan.
Just following up on this. I read up in osteospernum and it says it should be sheared back at the start of spring.
I was going to do this at the weekend but had a look last night and there's loads of buds ready to flower already.
Should I wait til after flowering or just go ahead and shear back now?
    Thanks a mil

  • And @Davewalsh29 you mentioned your Osteospermum came from Portugal...did you bring it back in your luggage? Hope you didn't, as it's one of the easiest ways to spread diseases across countries and continents. Osteospermums are readily available in the UK so could imagine the same in Ireland. The very reason the EU has been pushing with Plant Passports to help contain pests and disease.

  • Hi George,

I did I'm afraid, but I think at this stage after 2 years there's no point in pulling it. Brought it back before realising any of the above, but it is a very healthy plant so hoping there was nothing brought back with it.
Obviously wont be doing that again though.
