Fruit trees and shrubs in pots - which ones?

This spring I plan to turn my attention to learning about growing fruit and veg. I have a plot marked out for my veg bed but I'd like to try and grow some things in pots and everything I've read suggests that fruit might be my best bet. What have you grown in pots that has worked well, with a good yield? And where (full sun, part shade etc)? We like raspberries, strawberries, cherries, apples, grapes, figs. Are there any varieties of those fruits in particular that anyone's had particular success with in pots?

    I grow blueberries in pots as they like acid soil and mine is alkali. I feed them in March and water them regularly with rain water.
    Make sure your pots are big enough.
    Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    Ohh yes, blueberries - delicious and plentiful.
    They need to be grown in pots in ericaceous compost as BL says above unless you have very acid soil, feed with Azalea feed once a month during the growing season and always use rainwater.
    If you can provide those conditions you'll have a great crop, but protect from birds.
    My favourites are Herbert and Ozark Blue.
    I had a the best ever crop of carrots grown in a big deep pot. I grew them for the foliage and had the best carrots ever too.

    Thanks all. @Rik56 that RHS page is super useful, thank you. @Busy-Lizzie and @Pete.8 I love blueberries - will try. Hadn't thought of carrots in a pot but will definitely do that - frees up room in my raised beds!

    You will get more fruit if you have more than one bush of different varieties.

    @Busy-Lizzie of blueberries? Is that the same for all fruit or just blueberries?

    I started with three small blueberries last year. All different varieties. I have just got a mandarin and a lemon tree so fingers crossed. I also have a lovely conference pear in a pot that is now three. Just keep them sheltered from the wind.  Good luck!

    Thank you @jenifloss - I think I'll start with some blueberries and build slowly like you. I hope yours all give you fruit this year!
