    @Hostafan1 - I think that's a footpath on the other side of the fence. 

    We had a similar issue when we moved here. Footpath running alongside full length of the garden. Inherited tall beech hedge which was both a bit too high to cut comfortably (3m high) and very thin in places.

    Regularly scared the beejezus out of me when I was working head down and a*se up and somebody suddenly said 'Good Morning' as they walked past.

    We lopped about 1.5m off the hedge just before Christmas a few years ago and now maintain it at about 2m. Nice thick hedge now🙂
