Advice needed please

Hi. I got home yesterday to find a rather large plant had snapped and blown across the garden (most likely by wind). the roots are still in the ground but there is no foliage above ground any more. I am no expert and inherited the plant when I moved into the property just over a year ago. I wondered if anyone can advise from the poor quality photos:

a) Will the root system grow back?

b) what plant is it?

b) would placing the piece snapped off form a root system if I put it in a pot?

Thanks in advance

That looks to me like one of the broom family ... they don’t take kindly to hard pruning and I think that one’s life is over. 😢

There is nothing to lose by trying hardwood cuttings. Look for stems about pencil thickness, 9 inches long, remove any foliage on it. Plant about 2/3rds deep in a pot of soil and leave outside for the winter.
