Have I cultivated a weed?

This was the only seed that germinated from a packet of Silene. It’s not Silene... Is it a rogue weed that I have inadvertently grown on with loving care!?

  • It does look like a rush of some kind.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • thank you. It’s quite architectural so I will keep it in a pot over the winter and see what happens.
  • Got some growing with the roots of my climbing rose, can't pull it out, bit of a nuisance, looks nice in your pot, I should keep it there.
  • Looks to me like either Juncus effusus (soft  rush) or Juncus inflexus (hard rush)

    Can be invasive.

Ditto to all of the above, particularly the invasive nature.
    Devon.
  • I'm sure you won't be the first person to give tender loving care to a weed unknowingly.
When I had  my first greenhouse 45 years ago i was really proud of my first seedlings and proudly showed my mum. She said " Very nice dear - dandelions!"
I thought they were going to be marigolds as shown on the seed packet.

Well, just as pretty ... and edible too ... just a bit ‘alternative’ 😊

I let one grow but not seed. An interesting architectural plant - for a while. Dug it out when it got too comfortable.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • ok, it’s definitely staying in the pot and I’ll stop it going to seed. Thanks for the helpful advice.
