Summer raspberries - help!

Massively cut back late spring this year to clear invasive nettles so have not fruited at all but very healthy growth. So I have no 'woody fruited canes' to dispose of. Should I prune these unfruited canes or will these fruit next year?

  • Summer raspberries fruit next year on this years growth, so tie them in so they don't get wind damage. 😁
  • Yes, all of the canes you have now will bear fruit next summer.  When each of these canes has finished fruiting in mid to late summer, you cut it right back to the ground.  The new canes which will start growing from spring onwards next year will provide the fruit in 2021 so those are left to grow.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Thanks that's very reassuring!
