Sorbus (rowan) Tree

Can someone advise me on whether a small sorbus such as villmorinii would be suitable in a gravel garden and how far from a fence would it need to be planted? Our soil is light & well drained. Are there any other small varieties of sorbus which would be suitable?

...I've grown this tree close to a fence....about 1 or 1-1/2 foot from the fence... it's a very small tree that's never going to get in anybody's way... it prefers moisture and heavy clay but I grew it in full sun and it did alright... but it will need watering during long dry periods... it is not a tree for hot dry borders...
...you might like to consider Sorbus 'Pink Pearl' as an alternative...

As long as it has enough moisture while establishing it'll be fine. They'll grow quite happily near fences or walls. The canopy is light too, so there's no need to worry about heavy shade.
Any of the rowans would be fine, as long as they're looked after while establishing.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
