I just have butter... As long as the crumpets are the thin ones and not those stodgy thick things. They always taste like a bath sponge to me. My mum used to get them for my dad. Scottish crumpets are thin, but not like a crepe - somewhere in between. Fussy mare ain't I?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Billy vunipola to score a try anytime in the match is today's bet. I'm well known for my bets in the area but usually on the horses and football so this is a stab in the dark so to speak. £150 at 9/2
In the village where I grew up there was a Scottish farming family who’d moved to Suffolk (just after WW2?) bringing their cattle down on the train to Stowmarket and then herding them 10 miles along the country lanes to their new home ... what was then a more or less derelict farm. Mrs W made wonderful Scotch Pancakes ... she’d serve them to us warm with a smear of golden syrup 🤤

Good morning everyone. It's been a wild night here and the dry spell before the next onslaught isn't happening. Fine by me as OH has gone to watch the rugby with a chap we met here who turns out to have been at the same school as OH and on the rugby team with his older brother. Small world. I made some Parmesan biscuits to help soak up the beer.
@Liriodendron - I'm fine in my own company too but a new house and a new country can be overwhelming to some, apparently. Met loads of "trailing wives" in Belgium struggling with their situation but I suppose the difference is they didn't actively plan the move so were not exactly pro-active.
@Lyn - I know it's not easy but the only kittens I've ever saved myself have been 6 to 8 weeks old and abandoned before they're able to cope and then there was Pusscat who we found abandoned at about 6 yrs old and sheltering in our barn and starving. She needed spaying and all sorts of TLC and remained cross with everything and everyone for ages before deciding we were trustworth.
@Fairygirl, @Dovefromabove In Northumberland, those thin crumpets are called Pikelets but I grew up with drop scones for Sunday tea on cold winter afternoons. Then I started doing them for Possum when she had Belgian friends round to play and the recipe spread thru the village. OH never had either growing up but then he's from Worcester and his mum thought toasted white and margarine was fine. No idea!
Yes, well, the intermission is over and it's back to blowing ahooly with rain to suit. I'm off to hibernate upstairs with my trusty sewing machine.

Absolutely tipping down here.
I may even watch the rugby. I've been instructed not to phone my sons this morning.
