Plant id

New to this today.
plant in tub purchased years ago. A yucca?
now has an alien looking stem/flower growing from it.
ist this normal? Anyone able to I’d it?
thanks in advance

  • Yes, a yucca with a flowering stem.  You can cut that stem right back as far as you can reach, once it has finished flowering.  There are so many yuccas that I can't help with an ID though.

Hello neilhartley and welcome to the forum. I think your plant maybe one of the Aloe family. There are loads of them so I cannot be more specific.

  • so pleased it is a yucca and not an alien. First time it has flowered. Many thanks for your assistance and advice.

  • Sorry it is not Yucca..
It is Beschornia...with leaves that look like a Yucca.
    As mentioned above...... Beschornia yuccoides
