Sending plants to/Buying plants in... MALLORCA

My father in law lives in Mallorca and we'd like to get some plants (Begonias maybe) sent to him either from the UK, or from a Spanish based supplier.

All of our Googling has yielded nothing. All we seem to get is sellers in the uk, selling in the uk, to the uk.

Any pointers out there, please?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Brian

I think the plant regulations (at least in the UK) have been tightened up considerably this last year and I reckon Mallorca being an island, have much the same rules. I think it is now forbidden to send or take any living material between countries unless you are a certified commercial grower, but I might be wrong.  Far better to send him some money or a gift card so he can buy plants locally.

Too easy to import/export pests and diseases that way and P&P rates are very high.  The British PO will not allow plants thru the post either so send him the money instead so he can support local growers on the island.

  • That certainly seems to be the case; but how can we source plants local to him?
  • Either tell him to Internet search "garden centre near me" OR drive along any main road (not motorways) and look for garden centre signs.  Mallorca now has lots of garden centres.
