Euonymus europaeus ..common name Spindle is a shrub. Not normally a tree with a huge fat trunk It has leaves that are opposite. My pic shows Euonymus europaeus Red Cascade with fruit/seeds.
I agree with Hostafan...this is a proper full size tree...with good trunk. A Prunus sp...a flowering cherry tree. The leaves of which are alternate.
the app is a bit hit and miss, relies on you knowing your leaf shapes/bark quite well! I couldn't remember if it had blossom in the spring either. Its gorgeous whatever it is, I want one in my 'forever' garden!
Well done getting lots of pics..I often stand in the street with my camera taking pics of plants! The bark shows lots of lenticels very typical of Cherry trees. I recommend you revisit in spring to take a pic of the flowers. They could be pink, white or even pale yellow. Single or double. Then you will have a better idea of which one to buy. Remember you are always very welcome to post your pics here for id!
Quote RHS....."Prunus Tai-haku' is a medium-sized deciduous tree with a broad spreading crown. Young leaves deep bronze-red, later green, to 15cm in length. Pure white, single flowers up to 6cm in width"
Thanks all, it does look very much like that description.... shall have to wait and see what spring brings..I drive past it pretty much every day. I'm amazed it's ended up in an NHS car park, there's another smaller one opposite it too. Just hope it never gets chopped to make a parking space
