Moving young shrubs and trees

I saw Monty Don yesterday recommending this is a great time of year to move trees and shrubs. With all this rain forecast… and the ground is fairly workable… I’m considering doing a couple of moves.

1. Magnolia Susan ... been in the ground about 18 months. Hasn’t grown particularly big… And I’m only moving it to a nearby location so it can come out with a bigger gonna go back in.

2. James Grieve Apple tree
Has produced fruit but it dropped early… And is currently sitting in almost a bath … Standing water just a foot down from what I can tell

What do more experienced members think?

thanks!

I'd give it a go. Take as much of the rootball as you can and do the whole job in one go so they are not left out of the ground. I'm not sure if the apple might be better once dormant - someone else will know - but it will certainly die if it is in standing water for very long. Good luck.
