    Thank you @Nollie and @Fairygirl, that's really helpful.I am guilty of buying things I like the look of 🙄 and the garden certainly looks good for odd weeks, till everything finishes at the same time and then it lacks colour. I am trying to get the hang of succession planting so your tips are great, thank you.

    Ooh, I never knew I was harmonious @Fairygirl, (humble face). Lots of great tips there FG, Hopefully that will help the original poster as well and we will be forgiven for taking over the thread.

    I also use go-with-everything purple as a link colour, mostly salvias of varying heights and forms but also berberis and euphorbia with purple foliage, to connect different areas and styles of the garden. Total harmony is a way off yet though, I still have loads of gaps or areas that don’t work. The odd colour clash can also enliven and animate - well that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!
