I am trying to identify a plant (seedling) that came up in my garden

If anyone can help identify this plant I would be very grateful!  Just cannot work out what it might be!  It has quite a tough shiny leaf with a 'spiky' edge to the leaves (not painfully spiky though).   Growing well in semi shade.   At the moment it is about 8 inches high and has been growing there since the Spring.  Presume self seeded from somewhere although of course could have come in in compost from a purchased plant at some point.

    Looks like Helleborus argutifolius.
How can you lie there and think of England
When you don't even know who's in the team

    S.Yorkshire/Derbyshire border
  • I initially thought a Hellebore of some sort but there are single leaves on the stem rather than a fan of leaves on a stem?

I think an Eryngium possibly giganteum, but could be other.   The leaves form a rosette the first year and flower the second year
