Mould on hydrangeas heads

hi everyone

i know the wisdom says to keep the heads on the hydrangeas to protect the buds below, however after several weeks of wet but warmish weather a lot of the spent heads on my bushes are covered in mould. 

So so far I don’t see any problems on the buds and stems but should I at least thin out the ones which have the mould?

This is entirely up to you. Thinning or even removal of all flowerheads should not affect your plant. In fact, many mop-head Hydrangeas are pruned off in late summer for flower arranging and for dried flower arranging.
