Cotinus leave turned brown

Hi
in the past 3 weeks, a previously mature and healthy Cotinus shrub appears to be dying back. The one lovely deep red/purple leaves have turned brown and so I have decided to cut the affected branches back. I have taken a picture of the cut as it appears to have discolouration and so am concerned the shrub has some sort of disease.
Any help would be appreciated.
