    Can anyone tell me what this is please? It only starts to flower now, not earlier in the year. Thank you

    Schizotstylus coccinea.
    Often called Kaffir lily.
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Now changed its name to Hesperanthus.
    There are ashtrays of emulsion,
    for the fag ends of the aristocracy.

    Very easy to grow from seed, I’ve  got about 20 plants from this Springs seed sowing. 
    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

    Thank you all, my friend said that, but when I looked it up it said that it’s in bloom from spring to the first serious frosts, so I didn’t think it could be that as it only came into bloom this last 2 weeks?..... so that’s very late. Any ideas why or if the info is wrong?

    The info is wrong. It normally starts to flower at the end of summer.

    I was given some of these - in the green, from a friend, I think they are the same @suecurnow and mine have just started to flower in the past couple of weeks - with more flowering shoots appearing now.
