Honeysuckle....

Hi, just wondering if anyone could give me any guidance on why my honeysuckle looks so sad?! 🙂 Have attached a couple of pics. I’ve had it for around 3 years. I understand that it flowers on new growth from current year but does that mean it will always look like this now...? I.E. All brown & leafless at the bottom and middle?! Or have I done something wrong? Many thanks for any advice 😊

Hi @Marmot71. What is the ground at the base like? Where is it growing?
They need a lot of moisture, and ideally dappled, or semi shade  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Hi, thanks for the replies 😊 we’re in quite clay-ey soil & it’s not in the sun all day. I’ll try cutting it back as suggested next month & see if it ralllies. Thanks again.

I'd go with @Hazel-1's advice too. They can get a bit unruly and untidy, and often benefit from a good chop  :)

If it wasn't for the trellis I'd swear that was my honeysuckle. Leaves went yellow last week, now bare stems except for the ends. Same thing happens every autumn but comes back strong after a chop.
