It can be done, but it's going to take some effort just getting them out of the ground. If you've got a mattock that will help. I agree that a pruning saw is your best bet when it comes to splitting them. Good luck

It’s about 3ft wide and 5ft high - huge 😫
In that case - clear away the soil as best you can, and have at it with a saw - any saw
