Apples - scab?

My daughter has 2 Royal Gala apple trees which have fruited well in previous years. This year all fruit has brown marks, some have shrivelled and look almost like cork. Is this apple scab and what treatment can she give?

It sounds like it. I had the same problem with mine, and it was worse this year. I'd been thinking of binning them so that made my mind up, and I pulled them out a few weeks ago.
To the best of my knowledge, there isn't much you can do about it, apart from constantly removing affected foliage etc, and cutting off the bits so that you can eat them, and it's a lot of effort. I thought of buying some resistant varieties, but decided not to bother.
If you have a photo, that will help determine if it is that, or something else though  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
