If you're not sure about buying one yet, why don't you borrow a mower without a "sucking" action and try it out first?

    Have already ordered one!
Not too expensive so will see how it goes.
Also going to reseed etc and will have to keep well watered if this dry spell continues!
Wish me luck and I shall have to update on any progress  :)

You'll need to cut a couple times a week using that thing

    Think I can manage that!

Why is that? Does the grass grow faster because a cylinder mower cuts more cleanly than a rotary? I do mine about once a week with a push cylinder mower (less if there's a prolonged dry spell when the grass doesn't grow as fast).

Had also wondered that twice a week was excessive!
I cut the grass when it is long enough which in the summer can be up to a month with no rain!!!

A push cylinder mower won't handle long grass. This lawn also doesn't look very even/level, and grass in shade grows longer/faster than grass in the sun

Very long grass is cut with shears,
    The lawn if level.

Used the little push mower today and it is brilliant!
Cuts the grass rather than rips it up.
I have been seeding the lawn and the mower went over growth that was only just coming up and left it all in situ.
I didn't use the grass collector this time (I couldn't figure it out  :/) so have left the cuttings on the lawn and I have not done the edges.I removed the stepping stones as they were a faff to cut round so have seeded those bits.
    Still patchy but looking better.
It was also very quick,5 minutes at the most,it takes twice that to get all the electric cables out for the other mower!!
    All in all very happy!
