Will my vines take a hard pruning this time of year? Grapes this year have been infected by some kind of Mildew and I really want to tidy the vines up now.
I cut back new soft growth on my vine through the summer ... just ensure you don't remove the growth that you’ll need to form the main framework the following year.
By the way ... what happened to your greengage tree? Did it recover?

Thanks, I've been cutting back during the summer, but now It just looks out of control. Greengage tree still has no leaves but the wood is still green. I'm going to give it until the end of next spring to see if anything happens. Cheers
My vine is rampant at the moment ... waving its arms and slapping me in the face every time I go out into the terrace 😂. I just love its flamboyance.
I’ll have to cut it back before we go away in a couple of weeks ... can’t expect the neighbour to water the fig tree every day if she’s being slapped every time 🙄 🤣
Re the greengage ... no idea what sort of winter and spring we’re going to get, but I’d give it a regular soaking ... several gallons ... at least twice a week from March onwards unless we’ve had a very wet winter indeed ... and keep the area around it free from grass and weeds ... I’ll keep my fingers crossed 🤞
