Not sure if it'd be the same for you, as you mention the parasites, but we have large crow type birds that come down to the pond - 2 or 3 of them - and they fish out the snails. They then remove them from the shells to eat and leave behind the empty shells. We make sure we discourage them when we see them. I know it's all part of the wildlife cycle but we do like our snails in the pond. We have loads though, and constantly find snail eggs on bits of weed or plant that we fish out, and always make sure we return them.
Don’t think the crows venture into the garden, although there are some about here ... they nest in the big oaks by the golf course and the chalk mine’s ... I’ll keep my eyes open 👀

I accidentally introduced Leaches into my pond. They'd been in the roots of a Lilly. Within a month there were no more snails (Wandering and Ramshorn) I then introduced some Goldfish and after a short period the Snails returned. Obviously dormant eggs or tiny immatures being allowed to grow. I'm not sure how the fish have affected the Damselfly larvae until next year but I really hate leaches. Luv Dave
@dave125 you may have it ... we shall keep our eyes open for leeches ... I’d be surprised if there aren’t some in the pond ... there are plenty down the hill on the marshes.

My pond was originally infested with water snails, then a few years ago I noticed some leeches under the pond lily leaves , no idea where they came from . I have no fish in the pond , it is usually used by frogs . But with the leeches being in the pond all the snails are long gone.

We’ve not used slug nematodes in the garden since we dug the pond.
