This plant has just appeared in my garden. Can anyone help with what it might be? Its between 4 and 5 feet tall with pink racemes.

It's a lovely plant with shoots like bamboo canes but it seeds freely and can be a pest. It has interesting fruit.

It's a bonny thing, but many people do find it gets a bit out of hand.
Nicer problem to have than some, more aggressive, plants though  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • I have two of them, a very pretty interesting plant, but a nightmare, it goes mad, if to big, can't stand up, keeps falling over, had a real 'go' at it today and best part of it is in the bin!!!!! am told pheasants love the fruit, !!!

Keep it pruned and it's fine.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Thank you so much for the replies.  I can rest relatively easy now as I thought that it could be a strain of knotweed because of the similar leaves.  I will have to move it though and fortunately have a big woodland garden with lots of pheasants during the season. Hiding I expect from the guns! I will keep it in check!!
