Is this a blackcurrant bush?

Does anyone know if these berrys are blackcurrants?

    Me too.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • I just dared to try one and they taste ok, and I'm not dead yet...!

Me three. Blackcurrant leaves smell blackcurranty if you crush them .  They are a bit late, I picked all the ones I beat the blackbirds to in the middle of July.

I recently found out that flowering currant has fruit that looks very like blackcurrant, only a bit dusty-looking.  They are edible, but not worth it, they taste of nothing much.
That might be what you have there.

I think josusa is right here. Looks like Ribes sanguineum fruit to me

  • yes, I think so too, it didn't taste of much and the flesh was white, rather than the juicy tartness I remember from a blackcurrant
