Greengage Plum Tree problems

Hi, new to the forum here :-)

We moved into an old farm approx 3 years ago, we have a small orchard with one large cooking apple tree, which bears lots of fruit every year, two smaller pear trees which also do well and two plum trees. Two years ago the plum tree had loads of soft juicy fruit, plums in abundance, then last year hardly anything. I read that some times the trees work on a two year cycle ?  However this year it's the same story, hardly any fruit on the plum trees, and what bit there is seems hard and blighted with brown scabs. The fruit is mainly split open and also the leaves don't look too good.  I'm no gardening expert, but I need to try and rescue these two trees.  I enclose some photographs to show the problem.  And advice is welcome. Thanks

Mat

  • Hi I’m just wondering if you found a solution as I have the same issue with my greengage tree and would welcome any advice
  • Bit confused. Is it a plum tree or a greengage?
Weather this year has been so up and down our plums flowered well in the Spring but then the frosts came and we lost a lot of fruit.
The greengage were the same. Managed to harvest some  but very little compared to what we saw in flower.
We don't have much success with the gages. Plums better.
  • From google I understood that this was a greengage plum? Small slightly bigger than a cherry but tastes like a plum - quite sweet.
