Hello Maureen and welcome to the forum. Exactly how big is your tree? If it is a manageable size then I would wait until the leaves drop and move it then whilst the soil is still warm. If it were me, I would remove some of the top growth at the same time to make it easier to shift. Add some bone meal to the new planting hole and keep it well watered until it re-establishes.

Hello again Maureen. If you have help you might be able to move it as is. I have one of those in my garden but I keep it as a shrub not a tree and it thrives. I am quite brutal in cutting it back but this season it has spurted up in one section to about 8 feet. When it is dormant I will cut it all back to about 4 feet.
