Have I rescued a tree?

Hi guys. I have recently inherited/rescued this sorry looking cutting. I have searched about but come up with a big fat nothing to identify it. I was hoping one of you more knowledgeable gardeners could shed some light as to what it is. Thanks in advance..

    Possibly Syringa laciniata

    In the sticks near Peterborough

I agree with Nutcutlet there. It does look like a cut-leaf Lilac, Syringa x Laciniata.
  • Thanks guys. Having looked at some pictures and read the info I am pretty sure you are correct. Time to plant into a nice sunny spot.

Sorry to jump on this post, but I'd love one of these but can they be trained into a tree shape like a regular lilac because when I've seen them out and about they're a sort of bushy mound shape.

I have only seen one, and they seem to sucker with multiple stems around the base as they mature, so I reckon they will be pretty hard to train into a tree-like shape.
